SPC President Zhang Jun Visits Nanjing Maritime Court on Research Tour

July 11 marks the China National Maritime Day. Zhang Jun, President of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), led a delegation to the Nanjing Maritime Court for a research visit.
In recent years, the Nanjing Maritime Court has deepened coordination with relevant administrative authorities across maritime law enforcement, adjudication, and dispute resolution, advancing a tiered governance framework under which minor issues are resolved onboard, major matters are handled at ports, and disputes are addressed at their source.
In collaboration with the Nanjing Maritime Safety Administration, the Court established a one-stop dispute resolution center. This initiative has strengthened the linkage between administrative and judicial mediation and enhanced the guidance role of typical cases, significantly improving the quality and efficiency of dispute resolution. Over 80 percent of maritime traffic accident disputes have been resolved through mediation.
To ensure accessible and efficient judicial services, the Court has also established Seafarers' Rights Protection Workstations within maritime service areas, safeguarding the lawful rights and interests of seafarers.
During the visit, Zhang Jun emphasized that maritime adjudication is vital to building China into a maritime powerhouse and advancing high-standard opening-up. He called for strengthening the sense of responsibility and mission, leveraging institutional strengths, and enhancing resource integration. He also suggested the application of "Oriental Experience" to improve dispute resolution performance and the building of a high-caliber professional workforce to support the high-quality development of maritime adjudication.
