July 11 marks China Maritime Day. Zhang Jun, President of the Supreme People’s Court, led a research team to conduct research at the Nanjing Maritime Court. In recent years, the Nanjing Maritime Court has collaborated with relevant administrative authorities in areas such as maritime law enforcement, case handling, and dispute resolution, striving to ensure that “minor issues are resolved on board, major matters are settled within the port, and disputes are resolved without being escalated.” Together with the Maritime Safety Administration, the court has established a one-stop dispute resolution center, improved the coordination between administrative mediation and judicial mediation, and summarized and applied typical cases to enhance the quality and efficiency of dispute resolution. As a result, over 80% of maritime traffic accident disputes have been resolved through mediation. The court also set up seafarers’ rights protection workstations in maritime service areas, providing convenient and efficient judicial services for seafarers to safeguard their rights in accordance with the law. President Zhang Jun pointed out that maritime adjudication is crucial to building China’s maritime power and advancing high-standard opening up. It is essential to strengthen the sense of responsibility and mission, fully leverage the strengths of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, enhance resource integration, make good use of the “Oriental Experience,” improve the quality and efficiency of dispute resolution, and build a strong professional workforce, so as to promote the high-quality development of maritime adjudication.
