The Nanjing Maritime Court will relocate to new premises on 20 September 2026. Details are as follows: 1. Recently, Nanjing Maritime Court held a centralized training program for all staff, organizing judicial officers to study the newly revised Maritime Law and its judicial interpretations. Zhang Wenguang, Director of the Center for Marine Law at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Distinguished Professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a lecture titled Understanding and Application of the Newly Revised Maritime Law. The lecture analyzed key provisions such as ship property rights, protection of seafarers’ rights, the shipper’s right to modify contracts, limits of maritime liability, and the application of foreign laws, systematically outlining the legislative responses the new law provides to long-standing disputes in maritime practice.

On June 8, the Department of Natural Resources of Jiangsu Province and the Lianyungang Municipal People’s Government jointly hosted the Jiangsu Main Event for the 2026 National Marine Publicity Day and the Seminar on High-Quality Marine Economic Development.

Recently, a crew labour contract dispute adjudicated by Nanjing Maritime Court was featured in Volume 4, 2025 of Chinese Maritime and Commercial Law Reports. The journal is issued by Informa UK plc, a world-leading publisher specialising in maritime and commercial law. This is the fourth judgment from Nanjing Maritime Court to be included in its publications.

Recently, the Case Filing Division of Nanjing Maritime Court received an urgent call from the attorney representing five crew members. According to him, they had previously been employed on a fishing vessel. After their service ended, the ship operator owed them a total of over 120,000 RMB in unpaid wages. The crew members repeatedly demanded payment by visiting the operator in person and making phone calls, but their efforts were consistently rebuffed with various excuses, leaving them repeatedly frustrated. At that time, the vessel was berthed at Huangsha Port in Sheyang, Yancheng, and could set sail at any moment.

In December, the ship auction jointly organized by the Nanjing, Shanghai, Ningbo, and Wuhan Maritime Courts was successfully concluded. This collaborative initiative was designed to further deepen regional maritime judicial cooperation, efficiently resolve maritime disputes, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of all parties involved.
