China Institute for Marine Affairs under the Ministry of Natural Resources Conducts Research on Maritime Rule of Law Development in Jiangsu Province
On July 29, Deputy Director Xu Heyun led a delegation from the China Institute for Marine Affairs under the Ministry of Natural Resources (hereinafter referred to as "CIMA") to Nanjing to investigate the development of maritime rule of law in Jiangsu. The symposium was attended by Li Yuming, President of Nanjing Maritime Court, and Executive Vice President Li Yalin, among other court officials.
The session began with a screening of a documentary showcasing Jiangsu's maritime adjudication work, through which participants gained deeper insights into Jiangsu's efforts in this regard. Participants then engaged in discussions on key issues, such as the current situation of China's maritime rights and interests, judicial procedures for cases involving natural resources and ecological environment, the application of international conventions in foreign-related cases, and the role of maritime justice in safeguarding maritime rights.
Officials from CIMA emphasized that maritime justice plays a vital role in safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. They acknowledged that since its establishment, the Nanjing Maritime Court has fully leveraged its expertise in adjudication to fulfill its missions— protecting national maritime rights, supporting the development of marine economy, and protecting marine ecological environment through judicial practice.
Moving forward, it is hoped that both sides will take this research visit as an opportunity to enhance communication and collaboration, thereby contributing their expertise and strength to the advancement of China's maritime rule of law.
Officials from the Jiangsu High People’s Court and the Nanjing Maritime Court were also present at the symposium.
